More on Captain America’s slant

Back on April 4th I posted about Michael Medved’s article about Captain America. Yesterday he released a policy paper on the subject. This time he has a co-writer, a comic book collector who I think helps Medved with the specifics of the Marvel Universe, and this 8-page paper is eye-opening. They contacted Joe Quesada for input (and even corrected him on a basic assumption behind “The Truth: Red, White and Black”) and they delve into other titles besides Captain America. (Still, I read this and think “They don’t know the half of it. Pity they hadn’t asked me or I could give them twice as much ammo!”)

I don’t agree with every single thing in it. Medved worries about how it affects kids and how powerful the comic book industry is, when the reality is kids aren’t reading it and the industry is dying. Still, while the industry’s sales are absolutely pathetic, you have to wonder at the power of comics when comic book movies are the biggest blockbusters. It’s a mystery how such a low-selling medium can have such power…so maybe I shouldn’t doubt Medved’s claims as to their influence. This is certainly a subject for discussing in the NEVER MIND – THIS LINK IS DEAD –Forum.
