A Mighty Wind on DVD today!

Just a reminder that Christopher Guest’s latest mockumentary, A Mighty Wind, debuts on DVD today! This follows on the heels of his riotous movie about dog shows, Best in Show, and his earlier film about a small town play that hopes to go to Broadway, Waiting for Guffman.

Highlights of A Mighty Wind include all three members of Spinal Tap now posing as a folk trio and Eugene Levy as a burned out folk star (I’m thinking he watched a lot of Ozzy’s reality show in preparing for the role). The rest of Guest’s usual ensemble cast of fine actors include Catherine O’Hara, Fred Willard (always the scene-stealer), Bob Balaban, Paul Benedict, Ed Begley Jr., Parker Posey and of course Larry Miller.

TRAILER

A few fun bits of trivia: Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer actually performed as “The Folksmen” on Saturday Night Live back in 1984. During their tours as Spinal Tap, they actually appeared as The Folksmen as the opening act for Spinal Tap and were booed and jeered because the audience didn’t realize they were the same people!
