How to break in as a writer

Yeah, that’s right. I’m linking to a Steven Grant column. Why not? This one is really good and filled with helpful advice.

What’s more, it turns out the best way to break in is exactly what we’ve done with Job Wanted: we took some hot artists and put out a book hoping to make a profit but if nothing else establishing our cred and creating an example of what we can do. We’ll be sending out copies to editors at DC, Marvel, Image, CrossGen and Dark Horse to show what we can do. (But if you aren’t an editor there, you’ll have to ask your comic shop to order it for you. Previews Magazine, page 344. Yeah, you’re tired of reading it, I’m tired of writing it. Make it go away by having your comic shop confirm that they’re carrying Job Wanted, and I can press this button here that makes it so you don’t have to read it anymore. No, really. It’s a button, right here. You won’t find out I’m lying unless you try.)
