The MPAA no-screener decision

Last week we reported on Academy Awards without screeners and how this decision was going to hurt independent films’ chances at the Academy Awards and thus at the box office.

Today, several people have weighed in on this. Fox 411’s Roger Friedman devotes almost his entire column to the outrage about this decision. As far as Friedman is concerned, this has nothing to do with piracy (and he makes a good case why).

Speaking of weighing in, Roger Ebert writes today that inspecting a turkey sandwich won’t stop movie piracy.
