Marv Wolfman on his Superman animated series

I remember the Adventures of Superman animated series that ran back in 1990. It was faithful to both the classic comics and the Byrne revamp (I remember being astounded that it would feature the new continuity), it had the John Williams Superman movie theme, and Marv Wolfman was the story editor. At the time, I thought it was great that the animated show’s producers would go that extra mile to employ a Superman writer to make sure it was super-superb.

Now Marv Wolfman reveals that he only got the job because they had no idea he wrote the comic books!

His column also elaborates on DC’s announcement at Wizard World Texas that he and George Perez will be finishing up their graphic novel that was only half-done a decade ago. Marv wonders whether he should finish writing it in the style of the late 80s or redo it as a modern comic. For those of us interested in the craft, this is an interesting peek into how comics are written.

Marv will also be writing more episodes of the Teen Titans animated show. He wrote the episode with Aqualad, one of the better eps from the first season. (I’m gradually warming up to the Teen Titans…or is it that the episodes are getting better? If not for the ridiculous anime exaggerations, I’d enjoy the show a lot.)
