Billy May Passed Away?

On my three hour drive back from my parents’ house tonight, I listened to the last six episodes of the Stan Freberg Show on CD. I haven’t dug these out in a while, so I was able to enjoy a number of skits and songs that had blessedly passed from my pop culture steel-trap memory. (You know, that annoying memory that lets one recite Toonces the Driving Cat skits word for word but won’t work as well at retaining important things like phone numbers.)

About two hours ago, I mused that it would be really cool if Stan Freberg could get his third volume of The United States of America completed. Why not? Stan’s still around, and so is his music director Billy May, right?

Then I get home and, in the course of reading Mark Evanier’s site (see post below), I read that Billy May has passed on, only two hours since I was wondering about that. What odd…oh, what’s the word…synchro-something…it’s 2:00 A.M., I’m not firing on all capacitors. Wait, do capacitors fire?
