Sledge Hammer! will be out on DVD on July 27th, and the second season is already being planned.
If you haven’t seen Sledge Hammer!, you missed out on one of the great satirical shows of the 1980s. There are episodes that send up Witness, Max Headroom, Road Warrior and Robocop (when Sledge is transformed into Hammeroid). And it has the most inescapable season ending cliff-hanger of any TV show ever.
Still, the highlight of the show is the hilarious dialogue. One exchange I still remember today:
Sledge: Any idea where we can find this guy?
Dori: Every Wednesday he goes to a massage parlor.
Sledge: That’s it? “A massage parlor”? How can we possibly track him down? Do you know how many massage parlors there are in this city? A massage parlor!
Dori: No, I think he just gets a massage.
Sledge: Oh! Oh, well…there are three of those.
