More good writing tips

I’m loving the “Put Up or Shut Up” series over at Libertas, and here’s a great segment on Dialogue & Subtext. Although the series is about screenwriting, most of the advice is just as valid in writing comic books.

Love this comment, too (emphasis mine):

"On the nose" writing is, of course, the reason why George Lucas’s dialogue in the Star Wars films is almost universally awful.

I’ve come to the conclusion that, in the first one (the REAL first one), Harrison Ford is so far and away superior to Mark Hammell and Carrie Fisher because he actually imposed subtext on Lucas’s wooden dialogue which may not have even been there, and Hammell and Fisher did not.
