Roz and Melinda rate the Paycheck trailers

Posted on December 15, 2003 by thehutch

Rosaline Terrill, her husband William, my wife Melinda and I were all shopping at a rather derelict mall down in Dallas during Wizard World Texas. We were stopped by a couple of those annoying people who beg busy shoppers to interrupt their shopping time to take product surveys…in this case, view a movie clip and…

If you missed the news Sunday

Posted on December 15, 2003 by thehutch

“We Got Him” Melinda and I didn’t find out about the capture of Saddam Hussein until Sunday afternoon, so I was probably later to the party than most of you. But if any of you were away from TV and the Internet until Monday, here is the essential footage online at WashingtonPost.com

Movie titles made for bad reviews

Posted on December 15, 2003 by thehutch

Actually, the trailer for The Big Empty makes it look like a could-be-exciting movie. But if it happens to be a bad film, the critics have their opening sentences already written. (Dana Carvey used to discuss this phenomenon in regards to his own movies, which often had unfortunate titles. “Opportunity does not knock for Dana…

One of the few, the proud…

Posted on December 15, 2003 by thehutch

…the Independence Day fans. Yeah, I liked ID4. I still like ID4. Even with all the stuff that was improbable and didn’t make any sense. (It’s still better than most of the ID4-wannabes like “The Core”, where lightning makes stone architecture blow up…apparently the Romans had a fuel tank under the Colliseum.) The new movie…

Trailer Time again!

Posted on December 14, 2003 by thehutch

It’s time for me to see what the Apple Trailers site has to offer. First thing that caught my eye is the brand new trailer for Garfield the Movie, which debuts next year. As we’ve reported earlier, Bill Murray replaces the late Lorenzo Music as the voice of the flabby tabby. (That’s just a joke;…

Funky Flashman is Stan Lee, not Wolfman

Posted on December 12, 2003 by thehutch

In a post below which mentioned the Funky Flashman, I said that the character was based on Marv Wolfman. This is something I had read in a comic magazine some 15+ years ago and had never questioned, but Mario di Giacomo has corrected me in the comments of the piece that he was based on…

Watchmen shooting in 2004?

Posted on December 12, 2003 by thehutch

Variety and Comics2Film have reported that Watchmen may be filming next year. A decade ago, Terry Gilliam was going to turn it into a movie, and Alan Moore wished him luck on finding some way to cut down the 12-issue series so that it would play as a film. (Moore had no idea how.)

Gandalf the Grey to get court-martialed?

Posted on December 11, 2003 by thehutch

Sean at All Too Flat has been reading (or possibly re-reading) The Lord of the Rings and sharing his thoughts on each chapter. On 12/4/2003, he has this to ask upon reading that Gandalf put “the fear of fire” on Gollum: Is Gandalf a war criminal? A fair enough question, given the trouble that Lt….
