Buckley new publisher of Marvel

Posted on October 16, 2003 by thehutch

When I saw the headline Marvel Announces Buckley as Publisher, I thought perhaps William F. Buckley had a new gig. But it’s another guy named Dan Buckley, who is a buddy of Joe Quesada. (A buddy? Uh oh.)

Just after “Plan 9 from Outer Space” comes…

Posted on October 14, 2003 by thehutch

Manos The Hands Of Fate is finally available on DVD. We’re talking the original, not the MST3K version…although really, you HAVE to have Tom Servo and Crow with you to get through the movie without clawing out your eyes. (If you buy the MST3K DVD, it has the original on the other side.) This is…

They’re making Time Bandits II???

Posted on October 14, 2003 by thehutch

Hallmark Entertainment Producing Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits Sequel This is actually news from last year, but I hadn’t heard anything about it! Hallmark is doing it? Odd. I mean, the original was a pretty dark movie that ends with a kid orphaned because his parents do something stupid.

Epic indeed closed to submissions

Posted on October 13, 2003 by thehutch

Epic is not taking any more submissions and they’ve reportedly removed the information from their web site. It sounds like Marc Campbell’s “Northwoods Saga” is still a go project. That’s cool. (Go Marc!)

“Return of the King” gets critical nod

Posted on October 13, 2003 by thehutch

Fox411 reports that an attendee of a “Kill Bill” showing in N.Y.C. shouted out “That looks like it’s gonna be great!” during the trailer for “Return of the King.” (Of course, it was Elijah Wood, so he may be a bit biased.) It’s not the wittiest comment made by a hobbit, though. In the actor’s…

Time on Spiegelman

Posted on October 13, 2003 by thehutch

Little Lit by the writer of “Maus” gets some attention. Odd that it’s controversial to try to make comics for kids. There are so many people wanting the industry all to themselves that they don’t even like the idea of some comic books being for kids because it will hurt the idea of them being…

Don’t panic! The movie will be made!

Posted on October 13, 2003 by thehutch

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy finally gets approved. I have no clue what took so long. Jay Roach, the Austin Powers director who tried to make the film for six years, now cannot direct it because he’s working on sequels to Austin powers and “Meet the Parents.” (That has to truly suck…missing out on…
