The best superpowers

Posted on May 2, 2003 by thehutch

We haven’t really talked about the new WB reality show “Who Wants To Be A Superhero?” where contestants will be judged by superhero celebrities (i.e. Adam West and his kinfolk) and then have their idea developed by Stan Lee. Columnist Stan Sinberg has some good ideas for that show.

Roger Ebert Reviews X-Men 2

Posted on May 2, 2003 by thehutch

X2: X-MEN UNITED / *** (PG-13) Roger also pitches an idea for a new mutant named Scribbler. “Scribbler”? I have to wonder if Roger Ebert has ever met the screenwriter who goes by that pseudonym over on Chuck Dixon’s board.

Donny Mac reviews Red Son

Posted on May 2, 2003 by thehutch

This is an interesting twist. Don MacpPherson’s review of Red Son comes out and it’s a much more thorough (and less offensive) review…but in the end I’m more leery about “Red Son” itself. When Stalin doesn’t come off as evil…yeesh. If any of the Monitor Duty crew have read Red Son #1 and would like…

A tip from Scott Kurtz

Posted on May 2, 2003 by thehutch

Kurt Busiek’s mid-1980 series “The Liberty Project” is getting rereleased as a trade paperback that collects all nine issues. Artist James Fry is creating a new cover for the trade. The Liberty Project was originally published by Eclipse Comics and is now being published by About Comics, but it is creator-owned so that Kurt and…

More on Captain America’s slant

Posted on May 1, 2003 by thehutch

Back on April 4th I posted about Michael Medved’s article about Captain America. Yesterday he released a policy paper on the subject. This time he has a co-writer, a comic book collector who I think helps Medved with the specifics of the Marvel Universe, and this 8-page paper is eye-opening. They contacted Joe Quesada for…

Slushfactory unveils a Geoff Johns Interview that has the most heartbreaking news: he just turned thirty. THIRTY!?? This guy’s the Mark Waid of the new millennium and he’s just turned 30? He’s three years YOUNGER than me? Oh, this hurts.

Whazzup with MD’s design?

Posted on May 1, 2003 by thehutch

Just a short post here. I’ve been contacted with some suggestions for the site’s design, and it occurred to me that I haven’t really communicated much to you, our readers, about the state of the site’s look. Believe me, it’s not “finished”. I’ve got much to do in the way of navigation and graphics and…

Mea Culpa

Posted on May 1, 2003 by thehutch

I feel so bad about mis-identifying the author of the rant I was responding to earlier today that I thought I’d throw Don MacPherson some more hits as a method of apology. But this isn’t just a freebie. I think this review is worth checking out! For Free Comic Book Day, there is a new…
