JLA 97 Preview

Posted on April 19, 2004 by thehutch

John Byrne has two pages of preview art up on his forum. He also muses that, in his opinion, Captain Marvel is “really” a DC character (an opinion that is quite obvious to readers of his “Batman/Captain America” one-shot).

More good news about “I Robot

Posted on April 19, 2004 by thehutch

This featurette about “I Robot” is very reassuring in several ways: * The director of the movie is Alex Proyas, who made the impressive and deep film “Dark City”, one of my personal faves. * Proyas insists he’s trying to stay away from the “Hollywoodized” movie. Considering this sure looks like a frenzied action film…

Handy with the pistolas!

Posted on April 18, 2004 by thehutch

Weird. Chuck Dixon’s the experienced gun owner, but I came in #32 on the high scores of Bush Shoot-Out and Chuck got #33! Of course, those are just the daily scores! Monthly, I’m #10,001. Still, a fun and satisfying game.

Sunday night TV

Posted on April 18, 2004 by thehutch

I’ve discovered my new favorite show: “This Just In” on Spike TV. It’s on Sunday and Thursday nights. It is noteworthy for two reasons: it takes advantage of the ease and speed of Flash animation to provide topical jokes, and it has a political slant that is unique to any sitcom live or animated. I’m…

Hellboy missing a scene in your theater?

Posted on April 18, 2004 by thehutch

In his review of “Hellboy”, Roger Ebert made a note of a scene transition that made absolutely no sense. Now he’s found out why it made no sense. There is a scene that goes dark at the end of a reel and many theaters mistakenly take it to be the end of the reel, thus…

Eclipse remembered

Posted on April 14, 2004 by thehutch

Alex Ness of Pop Thought reflects upon Eclipse Comics. The article includes some cool well-armed pics of Beau Smith, Tim Truman and Chuck Dixon. It’s a good article, aside from an HTML coding error that has a picture situated on top of an entire paragraph.
