Celebrating Julius Schwartz

Posted on March 21, 2004 by thehutch

DC has announced that this summer they will celebrate the life of Julius Schwartz via 8 “DC Comic Presents” specials. Each one will recreate a classic silver age cover and then contain a new story written to match the cover (the editorial technique that Schwartz was famous for). CBR has the details.

New Van Helsing trailer

Posted on March 20, 2004 by thehutch

Van Helsing. Nuff said. It’s 3AM and I’m off to bed. Hey, that rhymes! I’m a poet and it never occurred to me before.

Shaolin Socer

Posted on March 20, 2004 by thehutch

Seems like I was pointing you all to the Shaolin Soccer Trailer ages ago. It looks like the film is finally seeing a release, and this trailer is much sharper. (Well, until the end where there is an odd error in the file. Hopefully they’ll fix that.)

Now back to our feature, “What’s Roz Doing?

Posted on March 20, 2004 by thehutch

Roz Terrill, cover artist for “Job Wanted” and many issues of Fanzing, also has an entry in the Small Press Idol and has just let me know that she plans to appear at the Olympia Comics Festival in May. Don’t forget to vote for Roz!

If, like me, you forgot that South Park’s new season starts tonight, you’ll be happy to know that it will be repeated again tonight at 11PM (Central) and then tomorrow night at 9, and the next night, and Saturday night, and several more times. Check your local listings.

Now this is more like it

Posted on March 17, 2004 by thehutch

I may be wrong, but the upcoming adaptation of I, Robot looks excellent. Obviously, it’s more of a big screen action pic than the short stories of ethical quandries that Isaac Asimov wrote decades ago. On the other hand, this appears to be a very intelligent blockbuster, and that’s a welcome thing.

I still love Independence Day

Posted on March 17, 2004 by thehutch

The Day After Tomorrow trailer looks… I hate to say “unrealistic” because that’s unfair to a sci-fi movie. Actually, if anything, this movie just looks tired.

New AVP trailer

Posted on March 17, 2004 by thehutch

There’s a new Internet-exclusive Alien Vs. Predator trailer, just unleashed a few days ago. Much better than the first “vague close-ups of costume elements hanging around the SFX shop” teaser trailer, this one actually gives hints of the story. And that’s really the make-or-break for this movie, isn’t it? Obviously this is going to get…

EXCLUSIVE Sneak Preview of “Melvin and Marvin Middler, Time Meddlers”!

Posted on March 13, 2004 by thehutch

Phil Meadows and I have done a time traveling comedy. Not only is it different in tone from the tense space drama we did for Job Wanted, but this time Phil’s shading style is completely different from the old fashioned dots-and-hatching look of “Enigma in Outer Space”. (That was intentional, as it was supposed to…
