OT: Cuban engineering geniuses

Posted on February 4, 2004 by thehutch

It’s been ages since I posted something truly off-topic, and this story is just too cool to leave alone. Last year, there was the sad but marvelous story of a group of desperate Cubans trying to make it to America in a floating truck. Unfortunately, the Coast Guard had to return them to Cuba, and…

Ralph survives?

Posted on February 3, 2004 by thehutch

It was rumored that Ralph Dibny might get killed off in “Identity Crisis”, the big event at DC this year. But, if one can go by this promo image, it looks like he’ll survive. Wizard #150 will have a preview of this event. So, if this cover truly shows the people who survive, and the…

Monitor Duty Site News

Posted on February 3, 2004 by thehutch

What with comic book writing projects, looking for a new job and all, I’ve been a bit busy. Apologies for being away. The “Big Geek Wad” winners will be determined and announced tonight. (I finally have a printer for printing up the entries!) I’ll also be putting up a new banner, obviously. (Note to self:…

AdCritic is back?

Posted on February 3, 2004 by thehutch

I hadn’t realized that AdCritic.com was back in business! Last I saw their site they had suspended ops and posted the standard “We still believe in our business model” message. I just thought I’d post this for anyone who wanted to see the Superbowl ads again. However, it is now a pay site.

Dixon resurfaces!

Posted on February 2, 2004 by thehutch

“Where is Chuck Dixon?” has been the call from his many online friends. He hasn’t posted on his message board in many moons. His web site, Dixonverse.com, has been offline due to a hassle involving his site host ever since the domain came up for renewal. Even with the announcement of “Richard Dragon” in November,…

Youngest inker work in SSCA #3

Posted on January 30, 2004 by thehutch

Our own Scott McCullar has introduced to the world a startling new inking talent: his daughter Rachel! That’s his seven and a half year old daughter. Scott’s latest Yellow Jacket story “Feeling The Sting” debuted this week in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #3. I’ve already seen the art in previews and I have to say:…

Okay, so it’s foreign and I’ll never see it

Posted on January 30, 2004 by thehutch

Remember that guy who fell into a coma in 1984 when Terminator came out and woke up when the star of that movie is governor of California? OK. Now imagine being behind the Iron Curtain during that same period of time. In Good bye, Lenin!, a man has to protect his frail mother from the…

Who’s ripping off Signs?

Posted on January 30, 2004 by thehutch

I saw this trailer for The Village and saw a number of visual elements that seemed reminiscent of the movie “Signs,” to the point that I wondered if this was just a ripoff of that film. Oh, guess not. The reason it’s so similar is that this is M. Night Shyamalan’s new film! Joy!
