Wonder Woman back as founding member of JLA?

Posted on October 20, 2003 by thehutch

Here’s something I never wondered about before: Are Paul Dini and Alex Ross’ annual oversized books canonical? I ask because the new book for 2003, JLA: Liberty and Justice includes Wonder Woman as a founding member of the team again! The pointless removal of Wonder Woman from the JLA history has been the one thing…

Sinatra needs to feed on human brains

Posted on October 20, 2003 by thehutch

Following closely on the heels of the news about the new Dawn of the Dead movie: Technology Resurrects Dead Stars “MORRRE BRAINNNNNNNS!” Actually, they’re bringing Frank Sinatra back to life via Rotoscoping, the same technique Ralph Bakshi uses in his films.

Get into Girl Genius

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

Writer/artist Phil Foglio has been a fave of mine since his funny (and sexy) Angel and the Ape comic 15 years ago. He has written to me personally and he is a genuinely nice guy. These days he pours his energy into his own self-published ventures like Girl Genius. The latest issue, #10, has just…

Now Batman’s pushing the envelope

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

Michael Tierney of The Comic Book Store gives his read on a preview of Batman #620. The issue does sound appalling, considering it’s a Batman book.

Get swimming, King Kong!

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

The world’s tallest building has been built in Taiwan. I have to admit…this is one very beautiful structure. Too many modern structures aim only for height. It’s not nice to say this these days, but the World Trade Center towers were very aesthetically-displeasing buildings that seemed geared only for achieving a certain number of stories…

More good trailers

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

Gothika is a new horror film starring Halle Berry (yay!) from the people who made Ghost Ship and House on Haunted Hill. (Neither is really a great film, but they both have their good parts. The opening of Ghost Ship is one of the most unsettling moments I’ve ever witnessed, and it’s too bad that…

A NEW “Dawn of the Dead” film?

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

This is FREAKY! A few days ago I needed something to watch in the kitchen while getting some housework done. I dug through the old videotapes and pulled out “Dawn of the Dead” (1978) which I hadn’t seen in a while. A sequel to “Night of the Living Dead,” it centers on a group of…

More Bubba Ho-Tep

Posted on October 17, 2003 by thehutch

Roger Ebert reviews Bubba Ho-Tep. Yes, I’m still reading Roger Ebert. I feel I have to in order to deliver links to the invaluable reviews like this one. It’s the first summary of the film that has not been written by someone from the Cult of Bruce, and I feel it’s good to get some…

Operation Gratitude

Posted on October 16, 2003 by thehutch

Operation Gratitude is sending care packages to thousands of our troops overseas. They have the packages…but the postage is going to cost $40,000! I’m making a donation via Paypal, and I hope you’ll all join me in making sure that the troops know that they are not far from our thoughts as the holidays approach….
