On the Captain America suit

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

I mean lawsuit, not the awesome-looking costume (well, I think it looks awesome; others disagree). Marvel and the character’s co-creator Joe Simon have settled their lawsuit about character rights. Hopefully Joe Simon got a satisfyingly hefty amount just in time to add it to his family’s inheritance. (It is really a shame he didn’t win…

Academy Awards without screeners?

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

MPAA head Jack Valenti has asked that the major studios not submit screeners for the Oscars because they inevitably get into the hands of pirates. Indeed, almost every Oscar-considered movie ends up on KaZaA long before they will debut on DVD (and often enough, while the movie is still in theaters), often with “screener copy”…

Oh! It’s a NEW Return of the King Trailer!

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

Ahem. Eric’s post on Monday about the new Lord of the Rings trailer struck me as being very late. After all, the trailer had been available ever since it was released on the tail end of a 10-minute look at Return of the King that came with the Two Towers DVD. Ah, but Eric didn’t…

Marvel A.C.T.O.R. book

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

Before you check out of your comic shop this December, I hope you’ll add one more book to the pile of duplicate copies of Job Wanted that you hopefully asked them to carry. Spider-Man & The Hulk Team Up To Help A.C.T.O.R. I’m not sure what the book is titled…oddly enough, the ICv2 article doesn’t…

Reminder #2: FallCon is this weekend!

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

FallCon 2003 is this weekend, October 4th and 5th, at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Erik Burnham and I will be there promoting Job Wanted, and Erik will have copies of Shooting Star Comics Anthology to sign. I imagine he’ll also be doing sketches to finance new shocks on his car, so he could really use…

Augie De Blieck analyzes CrossGen

Posted on October 1, 2003 by thehutch

Augie’s new article on CBR, CrossGen is dead; long live CrossGen, is one of the best assessments of CrossGen, pro and con, that I’ve seen in a while. It nails a stake through a lot of Internet sniping while raising serious criticisms of its own…and praising the company where that praise is deserved. Augie has…

Fanzing guy causing trouble!

Posted on September 30, 2003 by thehutch

Hey, we know that guy! Scott Kurtz has pointed out that he was reviewed by Matt Morrison. Yeah, THAT Matt Morrison who wrote for Fanzing and is now a columnist at 411Comics. Matt is a good writer…and an opinionated guy, with whom I must once again disagree (as I had to in the last issue…

Fan Fiction Sickos!

Posted on September 30, 2003 by thehutch

Fans Take TV to the Web Are fan fiction writers just desperate, obsessed couch potatoes who can’t wait for the new TV seasons to begin, or are they lonely, pathetic sickos writing romantic fantasies about TV shows? That seems to be the scope of the fans in this news article. Oh well, maybe Fanzing will…
