Bruce Bachand misses golden opportunity

I saw that news item about George Takei and clicked over to Monitor Duty to begin my write-up, my mind culling Star Trek trivia for the appropriate headline.

“Mr. Sulu, you have the Coming Out.”
“Star Trek cast now even more diverse.”
“Gold for command, red for security…what’s pink?”
“When did Mr. Sulu find the incilination to have a family?”
“Oh sure, next you’ll tell me Harvey Fierstein is gay.”

So what does Bruce, who beat me to it, use as his headline? “Mr. Sulu comes out as gay/homosexual”

I’m going to have to send Bruce off to riffing class.

  1. Well, now that gay marriage is OKAY UP HERE IN CANADA, everyone is ULTRA-SENSITIVE about the issue of homosexuality… what that means is that if you aren’t showing up personally to support homosexuality at a Gay Pride event you are a “homo-hating scum conservative maggot leech”… I kid you know… the atmosphere has fueled even more hatred (ironically) towards any views that are contrarian to those who passed the gay marriage legislation…

if a conservative religious person finds the thought of two consenting men having sex offensive it is because “that person is abnormal or messed up”… how is that for glib… so the ‘new norm’ is that you are a freak if you find same-sex attraction repulsive… I fully support Sulu’s right to ‘come out’ and be very vocal and emotional about it… but I also fully support the rights of those who wants to voice their revulsion to the ‘normalization’ of homosexuality .

But that is harder to do in the despotistic social climate up here in Canada.

I know your comment was in jest, Mikey. But I thought I would also respond that you guys down there need to protect your free speech rights ON BOTH SIDES OF DEBATES… unlike up here.

  2. No, Chekov is straight. He had a crush on Khan’s wife.

    Sulu has a kid.

and George Takei won’t watch Star Trek Generations because he cannot stand the thought of Sulu copulating and procreating.

MICHAEL NOTES: If Chekov had a crush on Khan’s wife, that was only in the novelization. After all, every Trekkie knows he wasn’t even on the show when “Space Seed” aired!
