The Chronicles of Riddick movie looks like a cross between The Matrix and Lord of the Rings, even swiping some visuals and concepts from both…but that’s not such a bad pair of trilogies to be copying, I guess.
Vin Diesel’s played this part before, in the movie Pitch Black. Aside from an allusion to being afraid of the dark, it doesn’t really make much of being a sequel to such a mediocre first movie. Chronicles appears to be much bigger in scope. Oddly enough, most of the complaints about Pitch Black were that the Riddick character was so unlikeable, in that he is an unrepentent murderer. Strange that they would keep the character for a second film.
I wonder why Vin Diesel is attracted to these unscrupulous roles. His character in xXx was just as corrupt. Actually, the only really admirable character I can remember him playing is The Iron Giant! (Okay, okay, before anyone writes in, his character in Saving Private Ryan was noble, though stupid.)
