After looking at this new Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow trailer and clip, I have to say…I’ve no idea what to think.

Again, I think it’s an imaginative idea and the art design is incredible. I love the obvious homages to the Fleischer Superman cartoons. That said…

CGI battles just DON’T do anything for me. I don’t know why it is that model effects, which are just as “fake” in the real sense, can be very moving. I feel pangs of sympathy for all of the Rebel pilots getting killed in Star Wars. Meanwhile, there are all these ships blowing up in the Sky Captain clip and it just looks as meaningless as a video game.

In fact, in terms of realism, the whole movie looks like a cut scene from a video game.
