Ralph survives?

It was rumored that Ralph Dibny might get killed off in “Identity Crisis”, the big event at DC this year. But, if one can go by this promo image, it looks like he’ll survive.

Wizard #150 will have a preview of this event.

So, if this cover truly shows the people who survive, and the individual who dies is to be one of the Silver Age JLA, then that leaves very few possibilities.

Snapper Carr? Possible, but it seems as though Snapper is the character DC can haul out at any time for some JLA-related goofiness such as Hourman or as an advisor to Young Justice.

Speaking of which…it could be that old team’s supervisor, Red Tornado. For one thing, the title of the book is identity crisis and “John Smith” was never much of an identity. Reddy was better defined as a “husband” and “father” to Kathy Sutton and Traya, respectively. The end of the Red Tornado mini-series in 1985 concluded with Red Tornado trying to choose a better name. I’d hate to see it happen to Reddy, but he’s died before and could easily be resurrected. And it’s that last fact which either (a) makes it likely because it’s a cheap emotional grab, or (b) discounts it because the fans would know it and DC may want a more permanent death.

I think Ron Raymond, Firestorm, is the prime suspect. I wondered why suddenly the new book is about a kid inheriting the Firestorm matrix. Why not Ronnie Raymond? I guess because he could be dead.

That’s where my betting money goes. The only other possibility is The Phantom Stranger.
