I just read in the Media Research Center’s weekend viewing alert that there is a new Showtime Original Movie debuting this weekend: DC 9/11: Time Of Crisis. It follows the Bush administration’s first 9 days after the September 11th attacks. The casting and makeup is excellent. In the photos on the website, many of the pictures look like they are taken of the real people.
Here’s what is interesting to Monitor Duty readers, and oddly it isn’t mentioned in the production notes: George “Sulu” Takei plays Norm Mineta. Takei and Mineta actually have a common bond. They were both relocated to internment camps for Japanese and Japanese-Americans during World War II. Indeed, Mineta’s traumatic experiences as a child have played an important role (for good or ill) in crafting security provisions that ignore a person’s ethnicity.
I don’t have Showtime, so I’ll be missing out on this film, but hopefully some of you won’t. It’ll be nice to see Takei in a dramatic role.
