Ghettopoly is one of those outrageous things that may have done less damage of people hadn’t gotten outraged and drawn attention to it. The game (which I would think would get a suit from Hasbro) is filled with stereotypes about crime, ghetto life and urban black street culture.
I don’t know whether to be upset at such a crude, offensive game…or go buy 20 copies to sell on eBay when Ghettopoly, at the height of its publicity, gets banned.
The game is created by David Chang. One thing that bothers me about this article: what ethnic group does he belong to? Why doesn’t it say? You can’t assume anything from the surname Chang, and it’s bizarre that in an article of this sort it’s not mentioned. I mean, it does affect the level of outrage, even if in a perfect world it shouldn’t. If, say, Dave Chappelle was producing this game, it would be seen as parody…but someone like Drew Carey would never be allowed to do it!
