Ahem. Eric’s post on Monday about the new Lord of the Rings trailer struck me as being very late. After all, the trailer had been available ever since it was released on the tail end of a 10-minute look at Return of the King that came with the Two Towers DVD. Ah, but Eric didn’t clarify that this is a NEW, DIFFERENT trailer! If not for this post in The Corner, I wouldn’t have known that this new trailer debuted on Monday.
By the way, Eric, Hayward has also written about the changes to Two Towers. I know all Tolkein book fans have complaints here and there, and I too was miffed that the film did not end with Shelob’s Lair. And judging by the long, pointless recap of everything that we’ve just seen by a droning Cate Blanchett, it wasn’t due to time constraints.
All in all I think these adaptations have been great. Even the excessive Liv Tyler relationship-oriented scenes that were added in aren’t truly bad; I find the scene with her father quite moving, even if it doesn’t make sense that she’d be immortal at Strider’s death given that she was choosing a mortal life.
