Marvel profits up, gets visit from Taxman

Well, nice to know that not every comic book company is having hard financial times.

ICv2 News – Marvel’s Profits Soar

This part caught my eye:

Because of its strong financial performance Marvel will have to deal with a high tax bracket starting in Q4 of 2003, which will have a dampening effect on profits.

I like seeing this kind of thing mentioned in a financial report, since far too many people look at businesses as tax-generators without any consideration of what it does to the profitability of the company. (The goofy thing about this is that you know it won’t affect one bit who most of the people at Marvel will vote for next year.)

Marvel’s toy sales are down, although ICV2 has interesting details on that as well.

ICV2 also has details on Marvel’s five movies slated for 2004.
