Here’s something I never wondered about before: Are Paul Dini and Alex Ross’ annual oversized books canonical? I ask because the new book for 2003, JLA: Liberty and Justice includes Wonder Woman as a founding member of the team again! The pointless removal of Wonder Woman from the JLA history has been the one thing I never liked about George Perez’s revamp of the character, but now Black Canary’s history has been entirely rewritten to replace her…and you have to wonder what this re-rewrite would to do her backstory!

DC history has been quietly rewritten a couple times before. Around 1987, the Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman editorial teams ALL withdrew their characters from JLA history, insisting that their characters were never members of the team. Supposedly, Batman and Superman did not have much interaction between them, either, and that would not be the case if they were on the same team. However, cooler minds have prevailed, and Superman and Batman were rewritten as early members of the JLA in the “Silver Age” mini-series a few years ago.

Now…unless this is an uncanonical book which included Wonder Woman because it’s historically accurate and more sales-worthy…it may be that they are doing the same for Wonder Woman.
