Don’t read this until you’ve read “52 Week 38”.
That’s the one with the three Horsemen figures on the cover.
Yeah, that’s three characters standing in front of each other so that you have to squint at the monstrosity to make sense of it, especially since you’ve never seen these characters before. What was that we were discussing on this blog last week about poor composition?
Okay, so there are four Horsemen from Apokolips that have been made incarnate by the mad scientists working for Egg Foo who in turn works for Intergang who in turn work for Apokolips.
The Horsemen are old titans who have to be contained in inorganic shells (“only bodies of stone and steel and storm can carry such riders…”). Only three are present. The fourth one, “Yurrd the Unknown”, went out before the others.
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Like, maybe somehow the other rider is Skeets?
Difficult to tell, of course, since we know very little about Skeets. The original Skeets was destroyed, according to “Countdown to Infinite Crisis”. We weren’t told much about how Booster returned to the future, what happened to him in the future, or how he acquired the new Skeets when he came back to the present. This new Skeets II is the one with the floating tail fins (again, that makes NO sense). The only other thing we know is that he murdered Waverider and claims that he is made in the future from the metal taken from Waverider’s corpse.
Oh, and one more thing: the bio for Booster Gold in the back of 52 specifically stated that Skeets didn’t have any weapons, even though he was shown firing the same lasers that Booster has on his gauntlets (“booster shots”) in the original “Booster Gold” series. Dan Jurgens was the artist for those pages; you’d think he’d have said something.
But clearly, from Skeets’ ability to swallow the Phantom Zone last week, there’s a lot more going on with Skeets than his humble origins would have one think. Possessed by a horsemen, maybe? Could make sense, though we haven’t really seen how intelligent the Horsemen are. Skeets seems to have a very human personality now.
What do you all think?
One response to “52 Week 38 — Spoiler filled discussion”
Actually I love both concepts of Hypertime & the Multiverse. When one thinks about it, if one looks at the “Larger Picture”, there exists what we should call the Omniverse, which pretty much covers every doggone thing. This can be said to include every story that was ever written, not to mention every other comic company’s stories( which would include the DC/Marvel team- ups, the Amalgam Universe, etc), fiction/non-fiction books, our real world ad infinitum.
I still would like DC, with their beautifully rich historical universe to codify their arios strata of their Multverse including the God Realms, the 5th dimension(esp. when our scientists now believe that there are 11 higher dimensions), the realms of magic and of science, etc. Why did the Oans separate magic intothe Starheart and how does that mean anything since magic obviosly still exists…perhaps even more so since it is now the 10th Ageand new Wild Magic is here. What ever happened to Malvolio…argh, I’m babbling! Maybe some of these questions will be answered in future issues of 52…or after.
