  • News confirmed!

I can see from the comments on my earlier post that many of you have figured out what recent Marvel success story has inspired the coming story from DC. I’m putting the finishing touches on the story now. You’re really not going to like it.

  • Soon to Monitor Duty: ACTUAL NEWS!

I’ve got an inside tip on something happening at DC. However, Monitor Duty has never actually been a comic book journalism blog. It’s really more of a commentary newsblog: we link to other people’s news. I’ve never broken a story and frankly I’m not sure what to do with it. I don’t want to engage…

  • Marshall Rogers passes away.

Marshall Rogers passes away, age 57 Rogers was the artist on Detective Comics in the late 1970s, and his collaboration with writer Steve Englehart defined the character for the next decade. Their most famous story arc was published as Batman: Strange Apparitions. See the Marshall Rogers fan site to bask in the greatness of his…

  • The super-roofie

I’ll have more to “say” on this later, but for now this sums up my problem with “Superman Returns”.

  • Captain Carrot is coming back

“Captain Carrot and the Final Arc”, a three-issue mini-series, will be published in the fall of 2007. My big question is, will it disregard the atrocious “Whatever Happened To Captain Carrot” that ran in the Teen Titans? It should. That was more a parody of Identity Crisis and other soul-crushing character-destroying comics.

  • Things are looking up for Ralph Dibny!

You’re all wondering if I’m despondent after what happened to my favorite superhero this week in “52”? Are you kidding? SPOILER SPACE FOR THIS WEEK’S ISSUE OF 52

  • Must be an invisible dragon

I know I’ve said “52” would be better without the Renee Montoya/The Question story arc, but I didn’t expect them to follow my advice so hastily. It appears that this week they removed her story so fast they didn’t have time to take the promo text off the cover! “Montoya fights a dragon!” it says,…

  • Kids still love superheroes!

Shhh! Don’t tell kids that they’re not allowed to read comic books because they’re all PG-13 content (except for the hard R-brutality). So far as kids know, superheroes are still for them! The proof is all around me. This summer, my neighbor kids went nuts when they saw all the comic book stuff I was…

  • 52 Week 38 — Spoiler filled discussion

Don’t read this until you’ve read “52 Week 38”. That’s the one with the three Horsemen figures on the cover. Yeah, that’s three characters standing in front of each other so that you have to squint at the monstrosity to make sense of it, especially since you’ve never seen these characters before. What was that…

  • Like Underoos, but it’s a hotel room

Spend a Night in the Bat Cave. This is a hotel room made up of Bat-memorabilia. You can pretend you’re Batman, except that Batman sleeps in a regular bedroom in Wayne Manor. Sounds awesome! Oh wait…it’s a kids’ room. Wellllllll…that’s OK, I guess. I mean, lots of kids would love to stay in a Batman…
