Growing up in Iran: The Comic Book
I’d like to thank the Minnesota Comic Book Association‘s newsletter for informing me of this news story about an intriguing new independent comic book. “Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood” is a memoir of growing up as a young girl during the Islamic revolution in Iran (which followed the overthrow of the Shah, a western-leaning…

Dixon reacts to MD review of El Caz
I notified Chuck Dixon that Phil Meadows had reviewed El Cazador yesterday, and Chuck Dixon has reacted. In summary, Chuck’s very excited that he can finally do books in genres that all of the other comic companies refused to do. In related news, Bill Rosemann has offered to send Monitor Duty some advance peeks at…

Platinum Studios has just done a deal with Disney Animation. It’s a “first look” deal, meaning Disney gets the first crack at adapting any Platinum product they find interesting. Here’s hoping Josh Elder’s Love Bytes gets noticed!

Jump on here
This week heralds the arrival of three CrossGen “starter” issues. Sojourn, Route 666 and Scion are putting out issues that are intended to be good jumping on points for new readers. Greg Land’s art truly is astounding. I’m thinking about getting this issue even if I can’t follow the story!

After the post on Monitor Duty yesterday about CrossGen’s C.F.O. leaving, I asked head writer (and good buddy) Chuck Dixon about it on his message board and it was moved to a new thread. Chuck has responded. It’s essentially a “no comment” but with an explanation as to why he’s not commenting. I’m going to…

A tip from Scott Kurtz
Kurt Busiek’s mid-1980 series “The Liberty Project” is getting rereleased as a trade paperback that collects all nine issues. Artist James Fry is creating a new cover for the trade. The Liberty Project was originally published by Eclipse Comics and is now being published by About Comics, but it is creator-owned so that Kurt and…

Mea Culpa
I feel so bad about mis-identifying the author of the rant I was responding to earlier today that I thought I’d throw Don MacPherson some more hits as a method of apology. But this isn’t just a freebie. I think this review is worth checking out! For Free Comic Book Day, there is a new…
